Country’s single month export earnings in September 2014 have experienced a 1.44 per cent shortfall compared to the earnings of the corresponding month of the previous year, mainly due to the fall of earnings of the country’s major export sectors like woven garments, specialised textiles, jute and jute goods, furniture, finished and crust leather, frozen fish and vegetables. According to the state-run Export Promotion Bureau, the country’s export earnings in Sept 2014 reached US$ 2,552 million while it was $ 2,590.24 million in Sept 2013, marking a 7.25 per cent decline.
Although the export earnings in Sept 2014 failed to surpass the earnings of the same month of last year, the Sept 2014 export has crossed the strategic target of bagging $ 2,343.92 million earnings, set by the government for that month.
However during the first quarter (July-Sept) of the current financial year 2014-15, the overall export earnings posted a 0.88 per cent growth compared to the corresponding period of the last fiscal 2013-14. During the July-Sept period of current fiscal, robust export performance especially in knitwear, leather products and footwear, plastic goods, pharmaceuticals, shrimps, ceramics and bicycle have pushed the country’s overall export earnings to $ 7,695.10 million.
The amount posted a 0.88 per cent growth compared to the export earnings of $ 7,627.97 per cent in the same period of the previous fiscal.
But, the first quarter export earnings in 2014-15 failed to touch the target of $ 8,004.52 million, set for that period (July-Sept) this year, by 3.87 per cent, the EPB data reveals.My site

Analysing the EPB’s export data, it has been found that the country’s exporters of major products—women garments, raw jute, jute sacks and bags, furniture, finished leather and frozen fish—experienced negative growths in their export earnings in the first quarter of (July-August) of the current fiscal compared with those of the same period of previous fiscal (2013-14).
Earnings from knit products reached $ 3270.46 million during the July-Sept period of current fiscal, marking a 3.49 per cent growth as against of $ 3,160.20 million export earnings of the same period in last year.
But, the knitwear exporters failed to surpass the target of bagging $ 2,253.26 million earnings in the July-August period of 2014 by 2.08 per cent. The EPB data also shows that country’s woven exporters fetched $ 2,962.71 million earnings in the first quarter of 2014-15, showing a negative growth of 2.66 per cent as against of $ 3,043.69 million earnings in the same period of 2013-14.
